Christopher Eccleston
2005

Christopher Eccleston was born on 16th February 1964 in Salford, Lancashire. As a child, his greatest ambition was to play football for Manchester United. He found later that he was a better actor than athlete. Eccleston earned a BA in Performing Arts at the University of Salford. He studied at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. He first came to the public notice in the file Let Him Have It(1991). He appeared in TV drama series such as Cracker(1993-1994), Hearts and Minds, Our Friends in the North(1996), Clocking Off(2000), Linda Green and Fresh and Blood(2002). He starred in films such as Shallow Grave(1994), Elizabeth(1998), and Jude(1996). He was cast in eXistenZ(1999), The Others(2001), Gone in Sixty Seconds(2000), and a few others. In 2000, he starred in Miss Julie on the stage in the West End at the Haymarket Theatre. In 2005 he received the Most Popular Actor award for his role in Doctor Who. Eccleston has the distinct pleasure of being the first doctor in the re-start up of Doctor Who. He decided to leave the show for fear of being typecast as the Doctor for all time. Now he is considered to the shortest running doctor depending on how Paul McGann is viewed for his debut in the Doctor Who, the movie.
