My heart goes out to those amish children in Lancaster County. How can anyone even think of entering an Amish school where children are learning? I just can't believe it and my heart hurts. So far I have no idea how many are dead. I see the news are saying six confirmed dead and others seriously hurt.
To give you an idea about where this school is at, let me try to describe. It's between Strasburg and Gap close to a small village called Nickel Mines. Where I am orginally from the Amish schools were usually strategically placed in a center of farms and they usually range about two to three miles between each school. The children will walk to school every day unless they are too far then they will ride a buggy. During harvesting, the boys stay home to help and the girls continue going. During the winter, if there is too much snow or too cold, they stay home though I have seen them go to school when the local schools have closed for the day. Some familes consider the school too far and will teach their children at home.
My heart goes out to the parents who never expected their children to be hurt at school. In the last two weeks there has been three incidences now with shootings or having guns in or near schools. I don't understand how people can hurt our children. It's so scary. God watch and keep over the children while they are at school and please help the Amish community survive this atrocity.
